Strengthening the Public Health Ecosystem and Investing in Health Equity & Racial Justice

January–March 2026 Advocacy Highlights

We joined partners to protect public health funding and infrastructure while reinforcing the independence of nonprofit and research institutions. This included supporting strong federal investments in prevention, workforce, and core public health programs through early appropriations engagement. We opposed proposals that weaken public health capacity or restrict the nonprofit sector, including new federal grant requirements that could limit access to funding or constrain equity-focused work.

2025 Advocacy Highlights

We took action to defend core public health capacity, secure sustainable prevention funding, and protect the independence of nonprofit and higher education institutions. We endorsed the Public Health Funding Restoration Act, calling for restoration of the Prevention and Public Health Fund to $2 billion annually, and joined appropriations letters urging Congress to fully fund the CDC and reject proposals to eliminate or weaken key prevention programs. Through reconciliation and budget advocacy, we sought to protect workforce investments, prevent destabilizing cuts across HHS agencies, and oppose delays in releasing congressionally approved funds. We joined national efforts defending nonprofit organizations and institutions of higher education against funding threats, investigations, and administrative actions that could condition federal support based on advocacy positions or undermine academic and scientific independence.
