Federal & State-Based Policy & Advocacy

Advancing community-centered policy change across federal and state levels to transform systems, shift investment, and strengthen equitable health, safety, and wellbeing.

Federal & State-Based Policy & Advocacy

Across all our advocacy efforts, we champion community-centered policies that address systemic inequities, strengthen protective factors, and transform the conditions that shape health, safety, and wellbeing—so that resources, power, and opportunities are distributed equitably.

Prevention Institute brings more than 25 years of on-the-ground experience advancing prevention and equity through partnerships with community collaboratives, local organizations, health systems, philanthropy, local and state health departments, and federal agencies. Our policy analysis and strategy development are grounded in this practice-based experience and informed by what communities know works, helping advance prevention innovation and drive durable systems change.

Our advocacy efforts are concentrated at the federal level and in the states of California and Texas, where we engage in policy analysis, coalition-building, and strategic advocacy to advance upstream, equity-centered solutions. We also support local policy efforts nationwide through communities of practice and capacity-building with community-based organizations, coalitions, healthcare institutions, and government partners—strengthening the ecosystem needed to sustain prevention-oriented change.
