Our take on important issues affecting the prevention community.
SHINE is a California project stewarded by Prevention Institute (PI), co-created with a Learning Community of five collaboratives, and supported by the Blue Shield of California Foundation. SHINE collaboratives work at the intersection of racial and gender justice, Indigenous sovereignty, immigrant/refugee rights, and housing/economic security to address the root causes of domestic violence and promote safety and healing in their communities. Every community deserves to thrive. Since 2019, Communities of Care (CoC), a five-year initiative that supports collaborative approaches to wellbeing in the greater Houston Metropolitan Area, has partnered with local leaders, residents, and organizations to address the systemic drivers of health inequities and work toward sustainable, community-driven change.
Learning Lab #3 focuses on long-term sustainability for community safety work. It highlights the power of youth leadership and youth–adult partnerships in a multigenerational approach to violence prevention.
Learning Lab #2 provides an overview of federal, state, and local policy contexts on community violence and youth. It explores how local initiatives can respond to “tough on crime” approaches, highlights state-based organizing strategies such as Invest in US, and examines opportunities and challenges for youth engagement.
Learning Lab #1 introduces a public health approach to violence, drawing on CDC tools and the role of public health partners. It explores pathways to violence and safety through Prevention Institute’s Community Safety Realized framework and highlights five racial justice principles to guide action.
We're pleased to share our summary and analysis of Governor Newsom’s California Budget Proposal for 2024-2025.
