This past June, Prevention Institute, We-Collab, and our partners convened the inaugural meeting of the SYNC Safety learning community. SYNC (Strategies for Youth and Neighborhood Centered Safety) is a CDC-supported project to increase the capacity of Black- and Brown-led community-based organizations to take a public health and health equity-focused approach to preventing violence. This report highlights promising practices and recommendations for incorporating contextual and experiential evidence into public health decision-making. It outlines how institutions can recognize community conditions and lived experience as valuable forms of evidence. The report offers key strategies for gathering, integrating, and sustaining these forms of evidence to strengthen more equitable and effective prevention efforts.
SHINE is a California project stewarded by Prevention Institute (PI), co-created with a Learning Community of five collaboratives, and supported by the Blue Shield of California Foundation. SHINE collaboratives work at the intersection of racial and gender justice, Indigenous sovereignty, immigrant/refugee rights, and housing/economic security to address the root causes of domestic violence and promote safety and healing in their communities.
