A System of Prevention for Racial Justice and Health Equity (General Operating Support)
General operating support (GOS) allows us to strengthen our internal and external strategies in service of our mission. For example, it helps us to deepen our organizational commitment to bridging health equity and racial justice, including through a System of Prevention. A System of Prevention for Racial Justice and Health Equity aligns public health practice with racial justice and health equity. This work builds on a project grant from June 2021 to May 2024. Our GOS—running from October 2024 to September 2027—leverages our leadership in equitable community-centered prevention and responds to the need for meaningful dialogue, practical resources, and stronger alignment across partners working at the intersection of health equity and racial justice. Our purpose is to grow the field’s ability to address root causes of inequity, reinforce accountability to community priorities, and align public health strategies with solutions advanced by racial justice partners.
This work strengthens organizational learning and strategy; builds staff capacity; enhances our communications infrastructure; and supports strong operations and finance systems. It also advances policy and systems change at the intersection of public health, racial justice, and health equity; expands practitioner capacity to implement equity-centered public health approaches; and builds narrative power by elevating community-centered stories about collective health and wellbeing. Together, these outcomes reinforce our commitment to advancing systems of prevention and supporting partners as they operationalize racial justice and health equity in their own practice.
