Through a seven year partnership with The California Endowment’s Health Exchange Academy, Prevention Institute conducted a more than 75 trainings and workshops throughout the state that presented a primary prevention approach and engaged participants in strategies to address health inequities. PI delivered trainings to health educators from local health departments (LHDs), community based organizations and youth leadership groups, as well as staff from city agencies, and local and regional elected officials to support community prevention efforts.
Informed by interviews with health department staff (directors, coordinators and educators) and community coalition leaders (school administrators, nonprofit and faith based leaders, as well as youth-focused organizations), Prevention Institute crafted training and workshop curricula to reflect the most pressing and immediate needs of health educators, LHDs and community groups. The Institute offered a mix of foundational trainings –introducing new concepts based on PI’s suite of tools and resources--for emerging leaders in the field, as well as advanced workshops for participants grounded in primary prevention to deepen their skills and understanding of community driven strategies that promote health equity.
