Public Land for Public Good: Advancing Community Stewardship of Public Land

At a time when public land is increasingly vulnerable to privatization, Public Land for Public Good makes the case for community-driven approaches that build local power, strengthen democratic participation, and ensure land remains a resource for current and future generations. The brief describes how communities across the United States and Puerto Rico are protecting and stewarding public land to advance health, equity, and wellbeing. 

Developed through Prevention Institute’s People, Parks, and Power (P3) initiative, in partnership with Ernst Consulting, it highlights policies and strategies that support community ownership and stewardship of land, including community land trusts, land banks, public land disposition policies, and joint-use agreements.
