With summer in full swing, we hope this update finds you in good spirits and health. At Prevention Institute, the season has been fruitful for us as we’ve continued our unwavering commitment to racial justice and health equity. In collaboration with partners and community organizations across health, safety, and housing sectors, we’ve created some new publications and tools to share with you. We hope you enjoy.

Nonprofit Quarterly Op-Ed: “What is Park Equity?”

In her Nonprofit Quarterly op-ed, PI’s Grace Cotangco breaks down the meaning of park equity, the main driver behind Prevention Institute’s People, Parks, and Power (P3) Initiative. “In resilient, healthy communities, we see more tree canopy, layers of leaves and branches that shroud the ground, native plants, and safe places for people of every age to come together. We see a restored and lifelong connection to nature. We see what communities across the country are now establishing: park equity—the fair and just distribution of parks and green spaces so all communities have access to these health-promoting resources.”

New videos and report from the Intersections Initiative

Prevention Institute and the St. Joseph Community Partnership Fund have released a new report, Building Partnerships and Power for the Future: Insights from the Intersections Initiative, which tells the story of Intersections Initiative, a four-year learning community comprised of seven California partnerships who worked to advance equitable, upstream strategies for health and wellness. This report describes the design of the initiative; shares lessons learned about capacity building, advancing health equity, and working upstream; and provides recommendations for grant makers, healthcare, and the field.

Read the report, and watch videos produced in partnership with The Social Impact Artists highlighting each partnership.
