Community Safety Through Racial Justice Learning Series #1, July 20, 2021

In this video Prevention Institute's Xavier Lofton, La’Quana Williams, and Zachary Tarro facilitate the first session of a three-part bi-monthly learning series for local health jurisdictions and their community and government partners on applying racial justice principles and practices to build community safety. This session introduced key concepts from the papers, "Building Bridges: The Strategic Imperative for Advancing Health Equity and Racial Justice" and "Community Safety Realized: Public Health Pathways to Preventing Violence."

Building on the momentum of local violence prevention work, the first session also included an introduction to:

- Concepts and frameworks to understand and operationalize racial justice in violence prevention programs
- How to identify "choice points" to advance racial justice in programs, practices, and policies
- Ways to build capacity to normalize, prioritize, and incentivize truth, racial healing, and transformation in violence prevention work
