Our Locations

We work nationally, serving communities, regions, and states across the country. At the same time, we also call four locations home. These locations serve as places for deeper engagement and connection.

Oakland, CA: We have been proudly headquartered in Oakland since 2000. Since 2007, we’ve been located in Jack London Square, in a building that symbolizes prevention infrastructure. The building is both an Oakland Heritage Site and Green Business Certified.

Each floor features a full kitchen, meeting spaces, an open gallery, and workspaces, topped by a roof garden. Purposely designed as both a community asset and a supportive environment for staff—the building is an open and inspirational space that encourages creativity and collaboration. We host meetings and national convenings of up to 80 people. The building has spaces that are available to rent and includes a sound studio.

We are intentionally located within walking distance of public transit and provide beautiful bike racks and showers to support active transit.

Leimert Park in Los Angeles: Established in Spring 2015, we strategically chose South Los Angeles. Our office is housed in a set of bungalows two blocks from Crenshaw Blvd. in historic Leimert Park—a dynamic cultural hub for Los Angeles’ African American community, and an epicenter for community activism, artistic expression and social exchange. This location anchors our work in Southern California, serving as a launchpad for new strategies and innovative practices.

Houston, TX: Opened in Fall 2018, our Houston office strengthens our reach in the South and anchors our work in Houston, Harris County, and the Gulf Coast Region. This location represents a clear organizational commitment to the region and especially advances local investment from foundations and public entities that hire local first (or only). The office allows our topical work to be cohesive in place; serves as an incubator for new work; and creates opportunities for cross-organizational learning—drawing on both similarities (e.g. large population, air quality and water issues, etc.) and differences across regions.

Washington D.C.: Our DC office, established in 2013, marked an expansion of our policy and advocacy work—broadening primarily local and state efforts to an equal focus on federal priorities. It has deepened our federal presence, strengthened engagement with partners and policymakers, and enabled us to integrate our principles and practice-based learnings into national policy discussions. Staffed by PI’s Director of Policy & Advocacy, the office is dedicated to advancing systems change, partnership development, and narrative transformation, with a primary focus on policy and advocacy.
