In 2016, LA County voters overwhelmingly approved Measure A, the Safe, Clean Neighborhood Parks and Beaches Measure, which is expected to generate $95 million per year—money that could make a real difference when it comes to addressing inequities in park funding and upkeep in LA’s park-poor communities. Now, as the focus shifts to implementing Measure A, we need to ensure that the equity commitments that voters made at the ballot box become reality. LA County Board of Supervisors Meeting Tuesday, March 5, 11:00 AM Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration 500 West Temple Street, Los Angeles PI’s Manal Aboelata and Elva Yañez will be testifying to the Board in support of guidelines that 1) ensure communities that need park funding the most benefit from Measure A implementation, and 2) ensure that Measure A implementation doesn’t inadvertently exacerbate inequities. Advocates are calling for #ParkEquityNow and aim to turn high-need communities revealed in the LA County Park Needs Assessment map #FromRedtoGreen—a call to action based on the Park Needs Assessment map of spatial, racial, and economic inequities in access to parks and open space in LA County, which highlighted “very high need” areas in red on county maps. They’re hoping to turn out at least 200 LA County residents to show the Board of Supervisors that support for park equity runs deep.
