We're proud to present our 2022 highlights.

2022 marked a shift for Prevention Institute. As we quietly celebrated 25 years of our organization’s existence, we worked diligently to expand the evidence base for transformative community health and refined our work as an organization through narrative change, health equity, and racial justice.

With health equity and racial justice as our guide, in 2022 we facilitated carving more space for community groups and advocates to learn from each other and inform policy and systems change. Using an equity objectives framework—centering structural, procedural, and distributional equity—across multiple projects has helped us illustrate how equity and racial justice can be baked into shaping and transforming policies and practices. We have been elevating community-driven solutions as essential to progress and the evidence base for what works, and we have championed metrics and measurements that support transformation at the community and systems level.

Our celebrations this year didn’t stop at the programmatic level. We welcomed several new staff members across our teams; we went through our first single audit in more than a decade, which was clean; and we continued to grow and develop our Board of Directors.

Our approach to ensuring that all people experience their full potential for health, safety, and wellbeing across the life course through thriving, equitable communities is rooted in community learning and partnership with organizations, collaboratives, and networks. 2022 was no different as we deepened our commitment to explicitly bridging health equity and racial justice across all our work. We are excited to share highlights with you that span our four strategies:

  1. Shape prevention and health equity solutions and catalyze INNOVATION (inspired by and in partnership with communities)

  2. Build the PRACTICE of effective prevention

  3. Advance POLICY AND SYSTEMS change in support of health, safety, and wellbeing

  4. Generate MOMENTUM for comprehensive prevention and health equity

We never do this work alone. And we are grateful to our many partners: community-based organizations, government agencies, foundations, public health organizations, and racial justice organizations. These highlights would not be possible without our shared values, learning, and partnership. Thank you!
