Katie Miller, MPH, is a Director at Prevention Institute, where she leads the organization’s Impact and Metrics team, which focuses on data collection, learning, and evaluation across projects and activities. She provides consultation and technical assistance related to designing evaluation frameworks, managing learning and improvement processes, and integrating participant feedback into program refinement. Her expertise also includes coordinating advisory groups, evaluation partners, and learning initiatives that support continuous learning, improvement, adaptation, and tool and resource development.

Katie has extensive experience designing and implementing communities of practice. She serves as director of the Intersections Initiative, a 10 year body of work focused on building the capacity of community partners and coalitions in South King County, Washington, and throughout California to advance upstream prevention and policy change. She also co-leads Investing for an Equitable Future, which supports community-based power building organizations in three California regions advocating for public investments that reflect community priorities and address locally defined needs. Previously, she provided project leadership for the BUILD Health Challenge, Community-Centered Health Homes demonstration projects, and Making Connections for Mental Health and Well-Being Among Men and Boys. Katie shares lessons from her experience to inform the development of other PI-led communities of practice, provides coaching on coalition development, develops and implements sustainability plans, informs external communications strategies, and identifies and tracks key learning outcomes and impact metrics. 

She has presented on PI’s work at several conferences, including the American Public Health Association Annual Meeting and Expo, the Families USA Health Action Conference, the Northwest Regional Primary Care Association Conference, the Practical Playbook National Meeting, the Root Cause Coalition National Summit, and the Empowering Communities for a Healthy Mississippi Conference. 

Prior to her time at PI, Katie worked with local health departments at Public Health Institute in Oakland, CA, the National Association of County and City Health Officials in Washington, DC, and the Florida Department of Health, where she also served as a public information officer. She earned her BA in political science from the University of California, Berkeley, and her MPH in Health Education and Communication from Tulane University Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. 

In her spare time, she enjoys reading historical fiction, taking public transportation (especially trains and ferries), exploring urban and rural green spaces, and traveling with her family.
