Prevention Institute is honored to have received a three-million-dollar grant from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. These generous resources affirm both the dedicated work of our staff and the urgent need to fight for systems, policies, and narratives that support equity, racial justice, and community power. For us, this means focusing on upstream prevention to achieve health, safety, and wellbeing across multiple generations, especially within Black, indigenous and communities of color, and with populations who are systematically isolated from investments and opportunities to thrive.

This begins within—examining personal and organizational biases that become patterns of decision making. We have learned a lot about what is required to move from individual change to organizational practice and community-centered prevention policy that collectively builds long-term solutions. Honored by the trust and stewardship conveyed with this award, Prevention Institute has plans to advance our racial justice roadmap, update our strategic pathway, and continue our push for more equitable health outcomes and more racially just policies. The unrestricted nature of this award allows us to foster collective learning beyond our funded projects, to further mobilize for action, and exponentially enhances our capacity for impact.
