The Strategic Alliance for Healthy Food and Activity Environments was formed in 2001 to serve as a hub for cutting-edge policies aimed at improving eating and activity opportunities for all Californians. As a network of advocates informed by community wisdom and experience, the Strategic Alliance shifts the public debate on eating and physical activity away from a primary focus on personal responsibility to shine a light on the role that corporate and government practices have on the food and activity environments where people live, work, play and learn.
The Strategic Alliance issues framing documents to lay out a vision for a healthier and more prosperous California; develops cohesive policy platforms to amplify diverse policy solutions; creates online tools to support community-based policy efforts; conducts research, authors and releases studies to highlight the importance of healthy food and safe activity options; facilitates a media advocacy rapid response network; and convenes broad-based allies to define and refine priorities for advancing shared goals for increasing access to fresh, healthy and affordable food and beverages and ensuring safe places to play for all.
