Prevention Institute provides capacity building and coaching services to six new collaboratives funded by the Blue Shield of California Foundation and led by domestic violence organizations. These collaboratives are focused on domestic violence, and advance prevention from within that field. To broaden their impact, they are now starting to work with new partners in different fields like healthcare, advocacy groups, and housing to implement strategies that address the root causes of domestic violence.
As part of the technical assistance team, Prevention Institute provides web conferences, in-person trainings, and coaching to support the collaboratives in exploring and implementing trauma-informed collaboration, inclusive community engagement, and other related-topics.
Additionally, Prevention Institute links these six collaboratives to our Safety through Connection community of practice. Safety through Connection is a group of five well-established collaboratives focused on health and equity that have recently broadened their focus to include preventing domestic violence. They typically work outside of (beyond) the domestic violence field in areas like immigrant and worker rights, community violence, and mental health. Together, these two groups will provide valuable insights into how power, systems, community, and collaboration can come together to prevent violence in communities. The “within and beyond” approach allows us to learn about the how to create change across multiple systems, while unifying diverse efforts toward the shared goal of ending violence.
