San Francisco Organizers Get Ready to Launch Soda Tax Campaign

Join San Francisco Bay Area advocates this Saturday as they kick off a drive to bring a local soda tax before San Francisco voters. The effort has already been generating buzz in local media, and at Saturday’s event the health community will make its case for a city-wide sugar-sweetened beverage tax. They will show how it can reduce consumption, save lives, and reduce health care costs – and, by the way, get Big Soda to pay its fair share to support much-needed community health programs.

Last year, the beverage industry spent millions to drown a soda tax proposal in Richmond, preserving profit margins at the expense of community priorities and the health of residents. San Francisco organizers want to make sure the results this time are different. This Saturday, add your voice to the growing chorus of Bay Area advocates who are speaking out in support of community health and local priorities.
