Tell the House Energy and Commerce committee to support prevention

Once again, the Prevention and Public Health fund--the nation's greatest source of dedicated prevention funding--is at risk. House leadership has instructed several committees to find "savings"--to the tune of $18 billion in the first year alone--as an alternative to sequestration cuts. With directives to eliminate "government slush funds," the House Energy and Commerce committee is hosting a mark-up tomorrow, Wednesday, April 25, drawing savings largely from domestic health programs--including the proposed elimination of the Prevention and Public Health Fund. Not only would this proposal eliminate the Fund entirely, it would also rescind any of the Fund's unobligated dollars. This latest move is just one part of an ongoing strategy to dismantle prevention efforts across the country—and we can’t let this happen.

The Prevention and Public Health Fund moves our country towards a system that improves health, saves lives, reduces costs and strengthens our country--we simply can't afford to go backwards. We need your leadership and ongoing engagement to protect prevention. Contact your representatives and the leaders of the House Energy and Commerce committee, and tell them directly about the value of community prevention, and why they should stand up for the Prevention and Public Health Fund. We've made it easy, with a short letter that you can send with one click. It will take you just two minutes, but it could make all the difference in protecting this critical and unique funding. Contact the House Energy and Commerce committee members now.

Take Action: Stand up for Prevention
