Helping Teens Stop Violence, Build Community and Stand for Justice

Tuesday, August 30, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Prevention Institute: 221 Oak Street, Oakland CA, 94607

Join authors Allan Creighton and Paul Kivel to celebrate the release of “Helping Teens Stop Violence, Build Community and Stand for Social Justice.” Now in its second edition, this book provides tools, activities and guidelines for adults to work successfully with young people on thorny issues related to power and oppression.

Given the challenges facing our society, young people must be part of any long-term solution, but coaching students to make sense of the inequities around them can be challenging. “Helping Teens Stop Violence, Build Community and Stand for Social Justice” is a valuable resource for educators, activists, parents and anyone who works with young people.

“The authors have in-depth knowledge and personal experience about what it takes to transform communities, and they have effectively translated this critical knowledge for a wide audience,” said Larry Cohen, executive director of Prevention Institute. Meet the authors at the reception, and learn to engage teens as allies to prevent violence and take positive actions to shape our future. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
