UNITY: working to prevent violence
As the nation continues to mourn the tragedy in Tuscon, we are releasing an interview with Kamala Harris, California's Attorney General, which speaks to the value of preventing violence. This message is especially appropriate as the country prepares to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday. In honor of his legacy of peace and non-violence, we also want to share some of the positive work underway across the country. Prevention Institute's Urban Networks to Increase Thriving Youth (UNITY) builds support for effective, sustainable efforts to prevent violence before it occurs so that urban youth can thrive in safe environments with supportive relationships and opportunities for success.

What does it really take to prevent violence? The UNITY Policy Platform describes what needs to be in place on the ground, and delineates the supports that cities need for their efforts to be successful and sustainable. The newly released UNITY Policy Platform summarizes the UNITY Urban Agenda, which emphasizes bringing to scale a multi-sector approach to reduce violence in U.S. cities. We urge you to sign on now. Cities can’t do this alone, but together we can create peaceful streets with thriving youth.  With support from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and The California Wellness Foundation, the UNITY Urban Agenda and Policy Platform were developed in partnership with representatives of cities across the country and are endorsed by the city representatives. Read and endorse the UNITY Policy Platform.
