No on Prop 26: Take Action Calls

Election Day is next week and California voters face a critical decision about the ability of their local and state governments to continue to protect the public’s health.  Proposition 26 — supported by big tobacco, alcohol and oil interests — would significantly limit the power of local and state governments to asses or increase fees used to mitigate the harm these and other industries cause local communities.

During these important final days before the election, opponents of Proposition 26 will be getting the word out about the dangers of the initiative. We need to do our part.

The Public Health Institute and the California Center for Public Health Advocacy are sponsoring a Week of Action to encourage the public health community and our partners in the environmental health community to take concerted action to oppose Prop 26.  They have scheduled two 1-hour lunch-time teleconference/web forums — on Tuesday, October 26 at NOON and Thursday, October 28 at 2:00 PM where participants can learn about the dangers of the initiative and hear how they can take action in their communities.

Speakers will include representatives from the No on Prop 26 Campaign, as well as:

  • Justin Malan, Executive Director of the California Conference of Directors of Environmental Health
  • Bruce Pomer, Executive Director of the Health Officers Association of California
  • Tim Gibbs, Director of Campaign Initiatives with the American Cancer Society

The details for both calls are below.  Please share with your colleagues and partners to help us to get the word out.
