Sharon M. Burney

Justice of the Peace, Harris County, TX

 Judge Sharon M. Burney was inaugurated as Justice of the Peace, Precinct 7, Place 2 in Harris County, Houston, Texas on January 1, 2019. She is a graduate of Thurgood Marshal School of Law. Upon passing the Texas Bar in 2007, she began private practice in Probate Law. Prior to beginning her career in law, she served in education for 24 years at Houston Independent School District. Nine of those years were spent as Administrator of the Lighted Schoolhouse, a program for homeless and high-risk youth that she developed. Politics is not new to Sharon. Prior to attending law school, she received a master’s degree in Future Studies from the University of Houston where she concentrated in political diversity and developed strategic thinking skills. She also hosted “Reflections Black on Black”, a magazine style public relations radio show which included political topics on Pacifica / KPFT in Houston. A world traveler, Sharon has traveled to numerous nations and participated as a delegate and speaker on future trends and African American culture.
