Niat Tekle is a 2nd year MPH student in the Department of Epidemiology. She is also seeking a Health Disparities certificate in conjunction with her MPH degree. Niat is from Dallas, Texas and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Texas A&M University (College Station) in May of 2015. Niat’s introduction to research began her senior year at Texas A&M studying infant cognition. Her interest in research continued when she worked as a research assistant for three years, for one of the world’s top clinical research organizations, Covance, Inc. That is where she learned specific protocols for data collection, quality control, data entry, dosing procedures on participants on various clinical trials for many different treatments, and more. Niat then decided to channel her focus on receiving an MPH. Currently, her public health research interest involves mental health research among minority populations.
