Strategic Prevention Solutions Research Associate II

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Projects are located in California and Alaska, and include evaluation of multi-site community prevention projects, community collaborative partnerships, substance abuse prevention evaluation, domestic violence and sexual assault prevention evaluation, and development of prevention and evaluation technical assistance tools and training, including webinars. This position will work under the supervision of a Senior Research Associate and be responsible for evaluation and program planning duties and technical assistance development on multiple projects. This position will be a satellite position located in California.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Our needs fall into two categories:

1. Provide project support and management for evaluation projects at Strategic Prevention Solutions. Current evaluation projects are located in California and Alaska. Project work hours will equate .50 FTE, with the possibility of expansion to 1.0 FTE equivalent after a six-month probationary period. Specific skills required include:

  • Survey design and administration

  • Qualitative analysis

  • Some quantitative / percentage change / basic parametric-nonparametric

  • Visual skills, graphic presentation of findings/data

  • Proficient with Excel and setting up databases, using formulas in Excel

  • Interest and/or experience with needs assessment and strategic planning

2. While the majority of work will be virtual/long-distance, the position will require site visits and hands-on technical assistance with community non-profit staff. Main responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the completion of community needs assessments and related report writing

  • Provide evaluation and program planning guidance and technical assistance to

    community nonprofits

  • Oversee the development and implementation of evaluation plans for state-and

    community-level prevention activities

  • Work within an empowerment evaluation framework – emphasis is on building capacity

    for evaluation, while also doing direct evaluative work

  • Monthly meetings with SPS project personnel, and meetings with community partners,

    as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Master’s degree or equivalent in a field in which evaluation and program planning skills were learned and practiced. Examples include applied fields such as public health, social work, and community psychology.

Experience: At least two years of hands on experience doing community-based program planning and evaluation activities. Preference given to candidates who have experience living and/or working among Spanish-speaking and/or Native American/Alaska Native populations. Preference given to candidates who are fluent in Spanish. This is a California-based position.

SALARY:
This position is a part-time (.50 FTE) Research Associate II. Salary is negotiable commensurate with skills and experience and is expected to fall within a range of $25 – 35 per hour.
