Program Officer with Providence St. Joseph Health

Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Program Officer to our location in Irvine, CA.

We are seeking a Program Officer who will serve as a primary grant making professional within the St .Joseph Community Partnerships Fund (Fund).  The Program Officer works closely with community organizations, local leaders, health officials and other funders to determine local needs and opportunities for grant making and investments aligned with the Fund's priority areas. The Program Officer provides comprehensive review and assessment of grant proposals. He/She helps organizations develop and refine grant proposals, and present and promote grants for internal peer review and approval.  The Program Officer provides technical assistance to applicants and grantees and is responsible for grant monitoring.  The Program Officer works independently as well as in teams and depending on experience and expertise may be involved in non-grant making activities.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  •   Conduct outreach and engagement with a diverse set of stakeholders, building relationships across the community in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of needs and opportunities
  •  Initiate or develop projects in partnership with nonprofit organizations, government agencies or collaborations where the project has a shared interest with the Fund's mission and funding priorities.
  •  Maintain and build content expertise by staying abreast of current research, data and trends in the health care, public health and social justice fields; and by attending and participating in relevant convenings and conferences.
  • Review solicited and unsolicited letters of interest to determine fit with the Fund's guidelines and priority areas.
  •  Review and analyze grant proposals and financial documents to determine strategy alignment, organizational capacity and effectiveness.
  • Conduct site visits with prospective and current grantees.
  •   Monitor the performance of active grants within assigned portfolios.
  • Monitor progress of grantees in achieving key objectives through the life of the grant and participate in discussions with grantees to help resolve issues.

Required qualifications for this position include: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in any area of study.
  • 7 years experience in nonprofit management and/or Grantmaking role.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree in public health, urban planning, social work, public administration, or related field.
  • 10 years experience in community organizing, advocacy, public health, public policy, urban planning or related field.
  • 10 years experience in a career path that has provided opportunities for broad intellectual interests that bridge traditonal discipline boundaries is important, as is knowledge of the complex issues confronting PSJH regions.
  • 10 years lived experience with diverse communities and a strong commitment to equity and justice.
