Prevention Institute's focus areas reflect a comprehensive view of community health and wellness that emphasizes primary prevention and solutions that solve multiple problems. The Institute moves beyond approaches targeting individuals to create a systematic set of strategies designed to save lives and money in communities across the country.
Building on successes from a variety of fields and applying them to new challenges, Prevention Institute helps communities, governments, and foundations design effective prevention strategies. The focus areas include: preventing violence and reducing injury, reforming our health system, improving environments for health and health equity, supporting healthy food and activity environments, and promoting mental health and well-being. Advancing prevention requires focused work in these areas, but Prevention Institute also strives to identify the overlap between areas and the common strategies necessary to engender partnership among advocates with complementary objectives.
