New framing paper recommends next steps in reframing violence among youth: Prevention Institute /UNITY commissioned Berkeley Media Studies Group (BMSG) to investigate:
- What is known about how people frame issues related to youth violence?
- How can that knowledge help advocates do a better job explaining the value of prevention?
The resulting paper, Moving from Them to Us: Challenges in Reframing Violence Among Youth, explores how youth and violence have been portrayed in the news, how the issue of race complicates depictions about youth and violence, and how public attitudes about government can inhibit public support for violence prevention. It presents some key findings and makes recommendations to advance efforts to prevent violence affecting young people. We will be hosting a web forum on this paper on December 10, 2009.
